Christmas Time in April

Well it is like Christmas everyday here at the Weed household...

Everyday when I get home I get to see what goodies are waiting at my door step....

Picture are the 4 wheel disc brakes to include master cylinder and booster, brake lines, upper and lower tublar control arms, spindles, and front and rear coil springs which are 1" lower than stock....

I had the calipers powder coated black to go with the wheels which are black in the center with a chrome inner...should look awesome.  The only parts remaining to get for a rolling chassis are the fuel lines...I will run all of the lines before I put the frame and body back together..should be much easier that way...Almost to the assembly stage...can't wait!!!!

April 2012 Resto Part III

Well, I have started the final stages of tear down which means dash and components and doors...

Before the doors are gutted and removed...locks out, windows out, cranks out, door handles out, door locks out, and hinges out!

Here are the door shells...again shocked at how little rust I found in the doors...

Last night 20 Apr 12, I spent 5 hrs taking the dash apart. Steering column, master cylinder, dash pad, dash panel and gauges, glove box...etc

I decided that I am going to leave one piece of this car completed original...the steering column...My Grandmother Minnie used that same steering wheel and I will remember her every time I drive this car...can't wait!!!!

Took the remaining window and trim molding out and found some surface rust....good bye nastiness!

This is actually the worse rust on the car that I have found.  The front windshield track is severely pitted with holes so we will just cut that out and weld in another piece...

And here is the new clean front end with everything finally removed...

Frame and Body...going to look nice when I am done...Also, after much prayer I had my prayers answered...I found the body shop to do the final resto work and paint...Anchor Body Shop in Warner Robins...spoke to Rick for almost 2 hrs and I believe he is the man to do the job!

April 2012 Resto Part II

Prep for the POR-15 treatment...the underbody of the car is in AWESOME shape.  Only a bit of surface rust which comes right off...I am about 70% done with the prep and am shooting for the last week of April to put the POR-15 on.
I am scrubbing this with a wire brush the size of a toothbrush...LOL...but man is it clean...

That red color is the original primer/undercoat from the factory in 1968...I was shocked that it cleaned up so well and actually shines...more to come...

April 2012 Resto...Part I

This is the rear axle teardown....surprisingly the gears looked in almost new shape

Rebuilding everything...races, bushings, bearings, seals, and also upgrading to a new 3.55 ring and pinion

Out with the old in with the new...upgrading to 4 wheel disc brakes w/ 11" discs

\
I sanded down the drive shaft and coated with WD-40 to prevent further rusting...need to take to shop and ensure that it is straight

And here is the ALMOST finished product...still waiting for the rebuild kit and gears...more to come...

March 2012 Resto Pictures

Well this is the restoration of the frame.
I was going to rattle can it but decided against it...this car deserves the BEST!

I decided to give it the POR-15 treatment.

I will also paint the underbody with POR-15 so the entire undercarriage will be done and done RIGHT!

I will be replacing the drum brakes with 4 wheel disc

Rebuilding the rear end taking out the 3.08 gear and replacing it with a 3.55 with all new bearings and races

The upper and lower control arms will be replaced with tublar arms reducing weight and making it perform better

And of course all new body mount bushings for good measure

A little before and after picture

She wants some lovin but the time is not right....

I plan to have the POR-15 treatment completed by the end of April 2012...more to come!
